Job Description

This individual is an integral member of the University’s creative team, contributing to projects on both a conceptual and executional level. Working with Boston College writers, producers, art directors and marketing strategists, this individual is responsible for the conception, filming and editing of innovative and creative video content that meets the department’s needs. The position will focus primarily on the execution of live game content as well as filming, editing and the coordination of post-production. This position will be asked to develop and lead a vibrant content department with a larger focus on directing, concept development production oversight and mentoring a team. Good storytelling instincts, a well-developed and flexible aesthetic, technical proficiency, a desire to be part of a creative team and a passion for outdoor sports are a must.

The position will oversee all aspects of Boston College’s ACC Network broadcasts.  This includes production planning, production and collaborating with External Affairs, Athletic Communications and Interactive Media on the dissemination of content post production.  Overseeing production
includes managing the producers and engineers responsible for producing high quality digital and linear productions for many of Boston College’s 31 varsity sports as well as other BC-related content shown on the ACC Network.  This includes Coaches Shows, interviews, special segments, and other programming used to promote BC athletics.

This position is responsible for identifying and selecting (in conjunction with the Producers) professional game day personnel that will produce all live broadcasts. These staff members also include play by play announcers and color commentators.  This responsibility also includes managing a game day production budget and working with facilities and operations to ensure the production is in line with selected game starts and
ACC game operations guidelines.  This individual will act as the primary liaison with broadcast partners to ensure fulfillment of any and all contract
obligations.

In addition, the position will also be responsible for contributing to the creativity of broadcasts and conferring with producers, engineers and other key participants about production details.  Additionally, the Director is charged with instilling best practices and staying knowledgeable of the changing landscape of live broadcasts with respect to what’s new and accepted in the industry.


Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required Master’s preferred. Formal Experience/Education in Athletic Management.

7+ years of experience in the broadcasting industry

3+ years of producing/directing linear and digital broadcasts

3+ years experience in video control room environment

3+ years experience in script contributing or writing.

Leadership skills; Ability to take direction and maintain good relationship with staff

Ability to understand and adapt to budgetary constraints and get the most of what is available

 Familiarity with the following systems:

Audio: Powered and passive speakers, mixing consoles, wireless and wired microphones, audio recorders, signal flow

Video: HD and SD
Video Systems   video switching systems, projection lens to screen throw ratios, signal flow

Computers: Mac and PC literate, PowerPoint proficient, Microsoft Office

Expert knowledge of Final Cut Pro; Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and Ilustrator; and Cinema 4D

 Digital and Analog Audio Systems - specifically Dante Protocol  

Daktronics in game technologies

HD/SD Filming

Proficiency in encoding video for various deliverables Time and Resource Management

Experience in design, motion graphics and 3D animation an asset.

Documentation Skills

Troubleshooting Skills

 

This position works in multiple types of environments – office, production room, as well as outdoors acquiring video footage/content. In addition, this position is responsible for lifting video equipment which may be as heavy as 45-50 lbs.

Flexible daily work schedule. Evening and weekend schedule relates directly to athletic events and other university event schedules. This position includes working on holidays.
