Job Description

The John J. Burns Library of rare books, special collections, and archives at Boston College is seeking a Reference, Instruction & Digital Services Librarian to coordinate and deliver a range of user-focused services including:

 ●      supervision of onsite and remote reference and research services

●      integration of special collections materials in teaching, learning, and research with faculty and students

●      curation of interpretative physical and online exhibits

●      liaison support for digital initiatives and services

●      organization of public outreach programs and events

The ideal candidate will have a passion for developing effective and efficient research services and will be conversant in the principles and practices of scholarly communication, digital scholarship, and information literacy. S/he will have demonstrated abilities to bring innovative and engaging pedagogical approaches to the interpretation of primary source materials and the definition and assessment of learning outcomes. Experience with creating library exhibits is highly desirable.



Requirements

Applicants should have a minimum of two years of experience in providing reference, instruction, and/or digital outreach services in a special collections or research library setting. Previous project and personnel management experience is preferred. A master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent is required. An advanced degree in a subject area relevant to Burns Library collecting areas is desirable.

Occasional evening and weekend hours are required.
