Job Description

The Report Writer collaborates with Constituents Records staff regarding data architecture issues and changes to data fields for business processes related to reporting needs; and, collaborates with Advancement Information Services Application Developers when data fields and tables need to be added or changed.  The Report Writer reports to the Executive Director, Advancement Information Systems & Research.  The Report Writer develops reports using tools that include Blackbaud CRM, Application Express, Qlikview, Crystals Reports, Access and Excel.  The Report Writer serves as liaison to the Database Administrators in ITS for large data uploads from other sources, (i.e. student scholarship data) while also testing new and revised reports for data accuracy and reporting reliability and in creating required documentation for all new and revised reports.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $56,700 - $70,900 salary commensurate with relevant experience.  


This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 1 to 3 years of application development and financial reporting experience with large development and alumni data processing systems, preferably in an institution of higher education in a campaign environment.  Technical and operational support skills required include expert knowledge of development and alumni data processing systems, Millennium is preferred; experience in developing reports using Business Intelligence tools: Crystal Reports, Oracle ApEx, Microsoft tools (Excel, Access); experience in developing and querying, relational databases, preferably Oracle; ability to develop complex queries using various programming languages including SQL and PL/SQL; strong background in analysis, design, development, testing and support of advancement information systems with an emphasis on data quality control; excellent analytical skills for report specification development; must be able to communicate well with end users in order to translate their reporting needs; ability to document code and systems according to established standards; and broad knowledge of industry best practices in data reporting and data modeling.  In addition, must have good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, an aptitude for working with numerical data, an ability to work independently with careful attention to detail, a respect for the confidentiality of donor records and a customer service focus.  To be successful, must be able to balance priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced office environment.  Must be a team player who is highly motivated and dedicated to the goals of advancing higher education and have an appreciation for Jesuit Catholic education and the goals and values of Boston College.
