Job Description

The Assistant Director for Off-Campus is a 12-month, live-off professional staff member, and the only professional staff member in Res Life dedicated to off-campus affairs. The AD is supported by one graduate student and one undergraduate office assistant during the academic year.

Primary Areas of Responsibility

> Counsel and advise students and others about the off-campus housing market, provide legal and general advice about rental policies, and assist off-campus legal issues, roommate problems, complaints or inquiries from students, parents, landlords, or rental agents

> Organize and direct housing fairs for students seeking off-campus placement, including junior year students and incoming transfer, graduate, and law students

> Conduct campus-wide and individual off-campus housing information sessions and participate in panel presentations for parents, transfer students, and international exchange students at orientation sessions

> Work collaboratively with Off Campus Partners (the university’s off-campus housing partner) to manage and optimize the off-campus housing and roommate-finder website; assist Off Campus Partners by scheduling and attending sales meetings with local brokerage firms and track complaints and remove problem properties, landlords, and real estate agents from the housing database

> Formulate and prepare electronic forms, documents, brochures, and literature for web accessibility; update the off-campus housing website (bc.edu/off -campus) to streamline information sharing

> Design, implement, and evaluate social, civic, and educational events for students living off-campus. Signature programs include, but are not limited to, the Taste of Off-Campus, the Breakfast Club (neighborhood clean-up group), A capella Night, and participating in the city of Boston’s Love Your Block Neighborhood Clean-up.

> Conduct research of the off-campus housing market. Benchmark procedures used by other universities/institutions and continually update office services. Develop and distribute surveys, collect information and compile data

> Communicate with parents of rising sophomores informing them of their students’ upcoming off-campus housing search process; notify parents of students scheduled to live off-campus of important City ordinances, mandatory meetings, resources, and local address compliance requirements

> Provide liaison with University Administrative Offices including the Office of the Dean of Students, first-year, transfer, and law Admissions, Graduate School of Management, Office of International Students and Scholars, Office of International Programs, and Office of Governmental and Community Affairs

> Collect and track the local addresses of all full-time students living off-campus each semester in order to comply with the City of Boston’s University Accountability Ordinance

> Present to neighbors and City officials at monthly Campus Community Partnership Initiative meetings, Boston Town and Gown Meetings, and City of Boston Inspectional Services Department meetings

 


Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $55,600 to $69,500; salary commensurate with relevant experience.


Requirements

A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required, Master’s degree in Higher Education or related field preferred

One to three years of experience working with Housing/Student Affairs preferred

Excellent customer series and effective management and project

Completion of the Massachusetts Real Estate Salesperson course preferred

Experience in town / gown relations preferred

Evening and weekend attendance needed at community meetings and programs required
