The mission of the Office of Residential Life is to create safe, inclusive, and well maintained living communities. We engage our community members in opportunities to develop spiritually, socially, and academically in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition of the University. Under the leadership of the Associate Vice President, Director of Residential Education, and Director of Operations, the department consists of 40 professional staff members, 24 graduate positions, 192 resident assistants, and additional student employees.
The Assistant Director for Transitional Housing & Business Operations manages the summer conferences and camps, including scheduling, placement, and billing of all summer students, conference and camp participants. This position works with University constituents (First Year Experience, Athletics, Dean of Students Office, Alumni, Dining Services) to ensure that all policies are disseminated and followed, and coordinates services from Event Management, Facilities Management, and Housekeeping for all summer residence hall occupancy activities.
The Assistant Director for Transitional Housing & Business Operations has primary responsibilities for the opening and closing of the residence halls; managing summer bookings for summer students and for conferences and camps; managing all information and processes relating to early arrivals and housing extensions; and overseeing transitions. The position is responsible for establishing and reviewing summer housing guidelines and the management of all summer housing contracts.
The position is also responsible for day-to-day functional management of the StarRez housing application, testing system upgrades, and training summer staff as needed. The Assistant Director works with technology staff to manage residence hall access for the summer months. The Assistant Director serves as a back-up for managing summer access cards and access plans utilizing CCure.
The Assistant Director for Transitional Housing & Business Operations projects income, expenses, and summer housing rates, conducts comparative rate and service studies with other universities and colleges, provides budget forecasts for summer operations, reconciles summer operations revenues and expenses, and oversees relations with all outside vendors.
The Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring that billing, charges, fees and approximately $3 million in annual revenue and expenses generated by approximately 13,000 summer residents and guests are accounted for accurately.
The Assistant Director conducts an annual profit and loss analysis at the end of the summer to ensure that all summer housing expenses are covered. The Assistant Director also assists in the management of budgets for the entire department and ensures that lines are appropriately funded. The Assistant Director tracks budget lines throughout the fiscal year to ensure budgets are being managed and funded at the correct levels.
The Assistant Director for Transitional Housing & Business Operations supervises a full-time assistant and four summer resident directors and is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising 120 summer student staff.
Hiring Range: $55,600 - $69,500; salary commensurate with relevant experienceRequirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Business, or comparable field; Master's in Higher Education, Business, or comparable field preferred
At least two years experience in university housing, conference services, or related Student Affairs or higher education operational area

Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion
Understanding of a comprehensive conference and summer camps program
Demonstrated experience managing a summer conference and camps program, which includes multiple internal and external clients
Proven success in business operations, budget management, and/or accounting
Ability to resolve conflicts with students, conference attendees, and university stakeholders
Significant professional experience supervising student employees
Demonstrated leadership abilities and interpersonal skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong technical background; experience with StarRez database and CS Gold preferred
Proficient with technology in the office environment, including Microsoft Office
