Job Description

The Data Specialist for Assessment and Planning assists the Director of Special Projects and the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs in the compilation, cleaning, analysis, and reporting of data. The Data Specialist manages survey software (e.g., Baseline and OrgSync) and assists the Division of Student Affairs with tracking and aggregating data. The Data Specialist also supports compliance responsibilities within the division, including tracking data related to Title IX, as well as for mandatory programs for students.

In addition, the Data Specialist provides operational support to the Director of Administrative Services, the Director of Financial Planning and Services, the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, and the Special Assistant to the VP, providing assistance with HR operations and services for the division, and expenditures and financial reports. The Data Specialist also shares supervisory responsibility for student staff.

Qualified candidates must have excellent computer/technology skills including the ability to learn new programs quickly, as well as knowledge of basic research methods and statistics. The work of this individual supports organizational decision-making through the dissemination of research and data insights.

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience with data analysis, data analytics, or reporting

Experience working in higher education preferred

Strong communication skills

Computer proficient – skills in developing and managing spreadsheets, and manipulating and reporting data required

Advanced skills with manipulation of data using Excel

Advanced skills in creating visually appealing presentations using PowerPoint or other presentation platform

Interest and skill in data mining/data analysis and research experience is preferred

Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion

Organizational, administrative, and analytical capacities are necessary to provide customer service in person, by computer, and by phone with diverse populations

Setup mechanisms to collect data in support of Student Affairs and University assessment initiatives

Transcribe financial information and data accurately and efficiently

Attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and the capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment are crucial
