Job Description

The individual in this position must be both a self-starter and team player. Develops and implements social media strategy for Boston College, in consultation with University Communications senior management, to present the most positive impression of the BC brand and to consistently enhance BC’s on-line visibility and reputation across a variety of audiences.

Creates, organizes and executes new and emerging social media platforms and presence; monitors, and maintains all social medial channels.

Produces and posts lively University-related content tailored to varying audiences and aligned with strategic objectives.

Provides counsel for social media practitioners across the University to ensure the proper use of protocols when using social media in an official capacity.

Monitors and interprets social media analytics to inform strategic direction, in consultation with senior leadership.

Assists with postings to BC News website; researches, writes and edits stories for BC News.

Title and salary dependent on candidate qualifications. 
Social Media Specialist: 1-3 years of experience in communications, public relations and/or marketing; social media, digital news experience preferred. Higher education experience desirable. Salary range: $49,360 - $61,700

Senior Social Media Specialist: 3-5 years of experience in communications, public relations and/or marketing; with two+ years of online marketing and communications experience. Higher education experience desirable. Salary range: $54,520 - $68,150



Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media channels and their audiences to allow for targeted messages.

  • Social media technical skills.

  • Effective interpersonal skills.  Must be able to establish and maintain relationships with external and internal audiences.

  • Ability to work independently, yet in support of team objectives.

  • Requires strong project management and organizational skills.

  • Should be proficient in the following or related applications: Photoshop

  Sprout Social, Iconosquare, and other social analytics tools.

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
